- Carlee Steed
First Sgt. Carlee Steed, 86, of Columbus, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus, Ga., with the Rev. J. Lawrence Barksdale officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel of the Pines, Parkhill Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of McMullen Funeral Home of Columbus, Ga. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
First Sgt. Steed was born on June 18, 1918, in Boyle to Monroe and Mollie Reynolds Steed. He was a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving 31 and a half years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He received the Triple CIB Badge, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He was a member of First Calvary Association Follow Me Chapter, American Legion Post 35, DAV 56, Veterans of Foreign Wars 10558 and the Retired Enlisted Association, and was a member of Voiture Locale 280. He was a Baptist.
First Sgt. Steed was preceded in death by a step-son, Robert Semlek.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Steed of Columbus, Ga.; four sons, Jimmy Steed and his wife Becky of Smiths Station, Ala., Danny Steed and Leon Steed, both of Columbus, Ga., and Phillip Steed of Jacksonville, Fla.; a step-daughter, Deborah Crawford and her husband Roy of Columbus, Ga.; a step-son, Dean Fatuch of Columbus, Ga.; four brothers, Estle Steed of Cleveland, Raymond Steed of California, Bill Steed of Beulah and Talmadge Steed of Vicksburg; three sisters, Merle Dreher of Cleveland, Tenn., Hazel Tedford of Beulah and Ruby Horton of Leland; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made the charity of one's choice.
